Merit University Participates in the Innovators and Talents Support Fund Competition in Collaboration with the Leaders Preparation Institute of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research
Merit University participated in the activities of the 2026 University Waste Management Competition – “Green Loop Competition”, organized by the Innovators and Talents Support Fund in collaboration with the Leaders Preparation Institute of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. This took place through the university’s internal hackathon for the competition, aimed at selecting the best innovative student ideas and projects eligible for the subsequent stages of the competition.

The participation witnessed the presentation of a number of innovative student projects from various faculties of the university, utilizing technology and artificial intelligence in the field of waste management, recycling, and achieving sustainability.
The hackathon activities resulted in the qualification of three teams from Merit University to the next stage of the competition, with projects that combine innovation and practical application, offering sustainable solutions that serve the environment and society.
First Team – RePhyto | Faculty of Pharmacy The RePhyto project presents an integrated system based on the concept of “Zero Waste,” converting plant waste into economically valuable products, supported by an AI-powered website to identify waste types and assess the feasibility of recycling them.
Second Team – EcoSuture | Faculty of Medicine The EcoSuture project aims to recycle PP (polypropylene) and PET (polyethylene) waste and convert them into raw materials that can be used in surgical suture training. This combines environmental preservation with the development of practical skills for medical students, alongside an AI-powered application to track student performance, evaluate their skills, and provide feedback.
Third Team – EcoScan | Faculty of Biotechnology The EcoScan project relies on a smart application that enables waste identification and classification using scan technology and artificial intelligence, in addition to a smart assistant for environmental consultations and a log to store previous scanning records.
