Sohag Governor Inaugurates the Fifth International Medical Conference at Merit University with Wide International Participation Major General Tarek Rashid, Governor of Sohag, inaugurated the activities of the Fifth International Medical Conference at Merit University today, Sunday, April 26, 2026. The opening was attended by the presidents of universities within the Upper Egypt Alliance (Merit, Qena, Sohag, Aswan, and Luxor), along with a delegation from the University of East London, as part of efforts to enhance academic cooperation and exchange expertise. Discussions focused on available academic programs and potential avenues for collaboration with Merit University, with the participation of a distinguished group of faculty members and students. An extensive dialogue took place on mechanisms for benefiting from the offered study programs and the possibility of implementing them. The delegation from the University of East London also participated in the conference sessions. The opening ceremony featured a presentation on the partnership project between Merit University and the University of East London, which includes the signing of a memorandum of understanding aimed at supporting student exchange and granting dual degrees, thereby improving the efficiency of the educational process and expanding the horizons of international cooperation. In the second session, the delegation from the British university presented during the scientific conference and chaired the second session within the Faculty of Medicine’s program, reflecting the depth of the scientific partnership between the two sides. The day concluded with a special student conference meeting, organized entirely by students. It included the presentation of 15 field research papers and 35 scientific posters, with the participation of approximately 160 male and female students, in addition to two scientific sessions supervised by an evaluation committee from the university administration.
