About Merit University
Geographical location
The university is located in new Sohag city in upper Egypt , which is one of the most important governorates of Egypt., The university is established on an area of about 150,000 m2
Why New Sohag ?
• The location chosen for the university is appropriate for academic, ethical, and educational purposes.
• Away from environmental pollution.
• The university is close to the main roads and Axes , thus serving a very wide area .
Why was Merit’s name chosen?
• Merit’s name was chosen for the university, as it reflects merit, worthy and excellence
• Significance: Merit is “Princess Merit Amun” and she is the fourth daughter of King Ramses II, and she became the queen after the death of her mother. She was also “a priestess of the goddess Hathor, who undertook the rituals of her, So she was called Merit Amun, which means Beloved of Amun .
The statue of the princess is located at the Temple of Ramses II in the city of Akhmim in Sohag Governorate, which is a sign of the historical association of the University with Pharaonic civilization.
Vision
Merit is an advanced international university, established according to state-of-art educational and scientific systems; that aspires to be among the leading universities in Egypt and overseas; and pursues an aim to highlight Egypt’s pivotal role in community development, scientific research and preparing youths for a brighter future.
Mission
To provide educational, research and other services in all scientific fields that are compatible with scientific advancement needs and the needs of the labor market in Egypt and abroad, also to seek to establish scientific partnerships with major universities and scientific research centers in the developed world.
The University's Objectives
- Contributing to youth’s scientific and professional building in various specializations and qualifying students to obtain first university degrees as well as postgraduate degrees.
- Contributing to the moral and ethical buildup of students in a way that leads to preparing good and proactive citizens capable of integration and construction in the society.
- Developing human knowledge through conducting and publishing theoretical and applied scientific research.
- Serving the community through studying its problems and proposing effective solutions.
- Discovering an evaluation of available opportunities in the society for investment and development, adopting innovations, encouraging inventors, and supporting entrepreneurship.
- Providing public service activities for the community encompassing all its members, and according to actual needs, including all works of cultural enlightenment
Means of Transportation
Means of transportation are available from all centers of the governorate and neighbouring governorates, in addition to university-owned transportation for those who wish.

The distance between the university and the airport is (10) minutes
2- Buses
Buses are available all day long.
3- Trains
The distance between the university and Sohag’s train station is 20 minutes.
