Why is it Named Merit?

The name «Our University» signifies worthiness, merit and distinction.

Merit Amun or “Habiba Amun” is the fourth daughter of King Ramesses II with his royal wife, Nefertari.
Merit Amun became queen after her mother’s death. She was also priestess of goddess Hathor.
Her statue, discovered in 1891, is considered one of the most beautiful statues that ancient Egyptians portrayed with Pharaonic beauty and magic.
Her statue lies in the Ramesses II temple in Akhmim, Sohag.
The university’s choice of Merit’s statue as a symbol signifies the university’s historical connection to the Pharaonic civilization, since the past is the basis for building the future.

Merit Ptah

Merit Ptah is renowned as the first female doctor and the first woman in history to practice science. She lived during the third Egyptian family around 2700 BC.
Little is known about her, except through her son, who was one of the senior priests in the capital at the time, he immortalized his mother bycarving her a picture inside acemetry near the step of pyramid djoser in saqqara and also building her a stone pillar which she was described by the title of (Chef Doctor).
this title indicates that she was not just a doctor, but the chief one among them all.
The International Astronomical Union (IAU) named one of its first shock craters of Venus after her name to commemorate her as the first woman scientist in history
